Switzerland Buried Under Pack Ice

Thursday, 9. February 2012

Ice on stones in lake.

Pack ice in Switzerland? You bet!

Usually the most uncomfortable places on earth are the perpetual ice landscapes of the Arctic North Pole and the Antarctic South Pole. This now has extended to the otherwise pretty cozy country of Switzerland.

To the left we see pack ice in Staad, at the Lake of Constance.

Enjoy these spectacular impressions!

Do you really have to be the ice queen intellectual or the slut whore? Isn't there some way to be both?

(Susan Sarandon)

Ice and snow. Cars and trees.
Look at the icey trees!

I believe Ronald Reagan can make this country what it once was… a large Arctic region covered with ice.

(Robin Williams)

Ice on ship... Eis auf dem schiff...
Ice on drowning ships…

Age does not diminish the extreme disappointment of having a scoop of ice cream fall from the cone.

(Jim Fiebig)

At 6 years old, the ice became a place for me to express myself. Because I was so shy off the ice,
it became my safe haven, with music and freedom and self-expression. That was my emotional outlet.

Pillar in ice

How many women have the courage to start properly with a cold, cold bath early in the morning?
I jump in, throw the water, cold as ice, and after the first plunge I am happy.

Amazing ice art on pillar.

Take ice. Ice is fascinating to me. Ice is the one thing in our world that went from an agricultural product to being manufactured.

(Alton Brown)

Ducks on ice...
Ducks on ice…

I usually get myself into situations that cause sparks. I mean I'm a girl that likes the storms. I love feeling alive, I love walking out in the cold in my bare feet and feeling the ice on my toes.

Now is everything soon going to disappear under a unconquerable layer of ice soon in Switzerland? Probably!
But on the other hand there is hope as well, as the following photos demonstrate:

It'll work, if god, wind, leads, ice, snow, and all the hells of this damned frozen land are willing.

And finally, we leave you with this quote by Italian poet, prose writer, editor and translator Eugenio Montale:

Happiness, for you we walk on a knife edge. To the eyes you are a flickering light, to the feet, thin ice that cracks; and so may no one touch you who loves you.

Cat Vs. Mouse

Cat catches flying mouse...
This mouse surely hovers between life and death.

The remotely controlled mouse is good exercise for this kitten…

Never play cat and mouse games if you're a mouse.

(Don Addis)

And how about this fearless mouse? It fights back!

As the Nigerian proverb goes:

When the mouse laughs at the cat there is a hole nearby.

Cat mouse speed chase.

And finally, there was this illuminating insight:

It doesn't matter if a cat is black or white, so long as it catches mice.

(Deng Xiaoping)

Winter Ice Skating In Holland

Tuesday, 31. January 2012
Yes, ice skating in Holland is indeed possible as this dreamy movie impressively demonstrates.

This astonishing film was actually made on the ice skates of Dutch photographer and film maker Kasper Bak in Lemmer, a town in the north of Holland.

'Winter fun in Holland' by Erik Eti Smit

Photographer Erik Eti Smit said about his photo: "It is our national myth that in the olden days the canals were frozen from December till March, every winter. And when I was little, a sight such as this one was still quite common. We could skate almost every winter. Or maybe I just remember the winters when we had ice – and it certainly wasn't the whole winter."

And what do the Eskimos think about ice?

You never really know your friends from your enemies until the ice breaks.

(Eskimo proverb)

Erotic Sex Temples of India

Wednesday, 25. January 2012
Indian temples are not only holy sites of spirituality – some of them portray explicit erotic sex scenes.

Khajuraho is a village situated in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh about 385 miles southeast of Delhi. Khajuraho has the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, famous for their most explicit erotic art and overly sexual sculptures – some of this erotic art portrays ritualistic group sex.

Some of these group-sex postures are said to follow the Kama Sutra, the ancient Indian manual of art of making love.

Group sex in Indian temple: Khajuraho

Khajuraho - Sex: Man with Woman

What is the meaning of this 'spiritual erotic art'?

There are many interpretations of the erotic carvings. One of them suggests that for seeing the deity, one must leave his or her sexual desires outside the temple.

Another interpretation is that divinity (represented by the deities of the temples) is pure like the atman which is not affected by sexual and other desires of the physical body. Others suggest that these erotic scences demonstrate tantric sexual practices.

The Khajuraho group of monuments has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The video to the right shows the Khajuraho and other fascinating Indian temples.

'Divine Temple Khajuraho'

Of course, Bollywood deals with the subject as well in this 2002 Hindi music movie. ("A truly unique, exotic and wonderful love story centered around the place of Divine Temples"…)
